The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– telegate AG is back in the black Positive EBITDA in first quarter 2002 Munich, May 7, 2002.telegate closes the first quarter 2002 again in the black: The result before taxes, interest and depreciation (EBITDA) amounts to 1.1 million Euro. The directory enquiry service provider generated altogether a turnover of 27.2 million Euro (Q4 2001: 29.2 million Euro). On European level the turnover of the first quarter 2002 amounted to 1 million Euro. In the same period of last year it was at 0.2 million Euro. Altogether 26 million people were calling telegate in the first quarter 2002 (Q4 2001: 28 million). Above all the Internet-Directory Enquiry Service offered by Deutsche Telekom AG for free is to be held responsible for this slight decrease of calls. telegate takes legal steps against the distortion of competition. In March 2002, the Federal Cartel Office opened on behalf of telegate official proceedings against Deutsche Telekom. After a disprofitable business year 2001 telegate AG pushed a tight cost reduction program. The overhead personnel costs could be reduced on group level of more than 14 per cent from 4.2 million Euro (Q1 2001) to 3.6 million Euro (Q1 2002). The general administration costs were more than 36 per cent lower compared to last year. They decreased from 3.6 million Euro in the first quarter 2001 to 2.3 million Euro in 2002. Thus, telegate successfully consolidated its business activities.Regarding Europe, the company will focus on building up the Spanish market in the next coming months.
