Eurovia wins the contract to renovate and widen the I-85 motorway in Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties, South Carolina (United States)

  • Renovation and widening of a 32 km section of I-85
  • A €410 million (US\$435 million) contract

Eurovia, the VINCI subsidiary specialising in transport infrastructure and urban development, has won the design-build contract to renovate and widen a 32 km section of the I-85 motorway in Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties in South Carolina between Charlotte and Greenville. A joint venture comprising lead company Blythe (60%), the U.S. subsidiary of Eurovia, and Zachry Construction Corporation (40%) will carry out the project.

The €410 million (US\$435 million) contract covers renovation of existing lanes and construction of two additional lanes. The project is set to take four years to complete.

Work will get under way in the spring of 2018. The project will employ 350 people at the height of activity. It involves 800,000 m3 of earthworks, 1.1 million m² of concrete, 670,000 tonnes of asphalt mix and construction of six bridges and a railway viaduct over the motorway.

This is Eurovia's fifth project on the I-85 corridor in North and South Carolina in 15 years. The company generates revenue of over €400 million in the United States through its two U.S. subsidiaries, Hubbard in Florida and Blythe in North and South Carolina.
