Björneborg Steel AB is now modernizing its steel plant in Björneborg by upgrading its existing MES system. The system, which has been in operation since the 1990s, has played a key role in guiding and supporting operators in the production of ingots with the right properties. Over time, however, it has become technically outdated, difficult to maintain, and no longer supported. Prevas is proud to be a trusted partner in this important modernization effort.
To meet both current and future demands, Björneborg Steel AB has chosen to implement Prevas Smart Production (PSP) – a modern MES platform that makes digitalization both safe and profitable. In the first phase, a new reporting function has been developed for the final stage of the steelmaking process: stripping. Stripping means that the operator reports when the mold has been removed from an ingot and the material is ready to move on to the next step in the forge.
The goal of this phase was to create a solution that operates in parallel with the existing system, while laying the foundation for gradual expansion. With Prevas Smart Production (PSP), Björneborg Steel AB now has a scalable system that can be expanded step by step to include all operations in the steel plant, forge, and heat treatment – fully aligned with both the customer's and supplier's long-term goals.
– It's inspiring to be part of Björneborg Steel's journey towards more future-proof production, says Johan Lindqvist, Regional Manager at Prevas. By combining modern technology with industry insight, we help Björneborg Steel grow in a sustainable and efficient way.
Prevas' modern MES platform offers ready-to-use core functionality for a fast start, full traceability throughout the production chain, real-time data for better decision-making, and the flexibility to grow alongside the business. The result is a stable and future-ready solution that strengthens Björneborg Steel's competitiveness and provides a solid foundation for continued growth.
