Growth in the Bottle Cooler business exceeds our expectations both at the distribution subsidiary in Germany and at Refco S.A. in Guatemala. We also achieved significant turnover growth in the Ice-Cream Cabinet segment. This success documents the very effective revitalisation of this business activity through the introduction of new products. The effects of the crises in the food industry (BSE, foot and mouth disease, pork scandal) are making themselves felt in a muted trend in the Supermarket Equipment segment. Despite this adverse environment that is outside the Company’s control, the restructuring of AHT Limburg (formerly KWR) is progressing well. Total turnover of the AHT Group grew at a very impressive rate, climbing by 33% year-on-year in the first quarter, from ATS 373 million to ATS 496 million. The surge in turnover fed through to earnings as well. Operating profit (EBIT) was boosted from ATS 31.9 million to ATS 38.2 million, an increase of 19.7%. This is all the more remarkable as the year-earlier base figure is high – the exceptional loss at AHT Limburg in 2000 was recognised only in the second quarter of last year. ATS 1.7 million (4 %) are the result of exchange gains.
