Description
The Swiss Market Index (SMI) is Switzerland's principal stock market index , which tracks the performance of the 20 largest and most liquid stocks traded on the SIX Swiss Exchange, the country's main stock exchange. The SMI is a free float-adjusted market capitalization-weighted index, which means that the stocks with higher market capitalization have a higher weight in the index. The SMI is widely used as a benchmark for the Swiss stock market performance and is considered an important indicator of the Swiss economy's health. The SMI constituents represent a diverse range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, banking, insurance, and industrials.
