Saale – Decision of District of Munich to sell the district hospitals München-Pasing and München-Perlach to RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG Bad Neustadt a.d. Saale, 13 December 2004 —– At its meeting today the District Council by a clear majority approved the purchase agreement, notarised on 23 November 2004, between RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG and the District of Munich regarding the hospitals München-Pasing and München-Perlach. Already at its meeting on 25 October 2004 the District Council decided to back a change in ownership in favour of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG; the parties have agreed to maintain secrecy with regard to the further negotiations. In both cases the business operations will be wholly acquired by the listed hospital Group; the purchase price will not be disclosed. With its 442 beds, Pasinger Kreiskrankenhaus in 2003 treated nearly 16,000 patients in the specialised fields of internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, and oto-rhino-laryngology (ENT). The hospital employed a staff of 879 as at 31 May 2004. The second hospital in the District of Munich, Kreiskrankenhaus München- Perlach, has a total of 180 beds approved by the state hospital requirement plan. As a general care facility, it treats patients in the areas of internal medicine and general surgery. In 2003 nearly 5,000 patients were treated. As at 31 May 2004 the hospital employed a staff of 379. The range of services offered by the two district hospitals is characterised by a high concentration of healthcare delivery, as seen in the number of beds in Munich and the surrounding areas. The future new owner of the two hospitals has set itself the primary task of further enhancing comprehensive healthcare delivery to the population whilst essentially continuing the medical specialties and available areas of focus in the hospitals. This will ensure the further development of the two facilities as medical competence centre, thus enabling them to meet the healthcare needs of the future. To strengthen the range of services offered, a further differentiation between the medical specialist departments with greater emphasis on their special tasks is planned, as is the provision of further outpatient and day-clinic structures – possibly networked with community-based practitioners.
