Birdstep Technology, now restructured with a new focus, publishes a detailed Information Document describing the sale of Birdstep Technology Oy (Secure Mobility)
Birdstep Technology ASA (OSE: BIRD) has today
released an Information Document following the sale
of Birdstep Technology OY. In the document the
reader will receive detailed information about the
transaction and the rationale behind the sale. The
Information Document is attached in this filing.
This transaction enhances Birdstep's capital
structure, providing growth capital for the core
business. After the transaction on January 2nd 2015
Birdstep is now structured with a more determined
focus and is prepared and equipped to execute
entirely on our Smart Mobile Data business,
offering advanced HetNet, Big Data Analytics and
Mobile Advertising solutions for Mobile Network
Operators, Cable Network Operators, IoT and Device
Manufacturers. With our new focus and capital we
will drive sales by expanding geographically,
further develop product portfolio and strengthen
the company´s position in high growth markets.
While Birdstep has become a leader in the area of
WiFi Offload, a new and larger opportunity has
evolved from WiFi Offload into what is becoming
known as the Heterogeneous Network (HetNet). The
HetNet is the process of the Mobile Operator
consolidating their cellular and WiFi networks into
a single cohesive service offering. Birdstep
provides the technology for mobile operators to
enable the HetNet service for their mobile
consumers.
The HetNet opportunity arises as service providers
provide seamless network access to smart phones
(currently 2 billion and growing 20%) and smart
mobile devices, such as iPads, (currently 500
million and growing 30%) through the orchestration
of cellular and WiFi networks. Birdstep is the
technology leader in smart HetNet access, and is
used by 41 million smart devices and
growing. "This market is only 4% penetrated, which
means that we have a lot of room to scale." said
Lonnie Schilling, CEO of Birdstep Technology ASA.
In 2015 Birdstep aims to lead in providing mobile
operators with an intelligent addition to their
HetNet and ease the challenge they have with
improving coverage and capacity on their networks.
Mobile operators will continue to pursue
technological advancements to address demand and
the Intelligent HetNet is the solution.
"Our discussions with mobile operators globally has
confirmed that WiFi is the enabling technology
being adopted to enable the HetNet. We believe
that 2015 will be the year that operators around
the world, including MVNO's and cable operators,
will be more aggressive in their use of the HetNet
to address their customers massive growth in mobile
data consumption" Schilling continued.
Birdstep will address how to manage those
challenges when participating in many events
globally; Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Asia
Summit in Singapore, WBA Global Congress in London,
Carrier Wi-Fi Summit in London and Dallas, CTIA in
Las Vegas and MENA Summit in Dubai.
