AUSTRALIAN SECURITIES EXCHANGE ANNOUNCEMENT 11[th] February 2008
STURT NICKEL PROJECT (SA): PACE DRILL FUNDING
The directors of Tasman Resources are pleased to announce that its submission to PIRSA for $48,000 of Round 5 PACE (Plan for Accelerating Exploration) funding has been approved.
The funding will cover 50% of the drilling costs (up to $48,000) for the testing of a number of ground geophysical (EM) anomalies associated with a mafic-ultramafic intrusion at the 100% owned Sturt Nickel Prospect, located on the Gawler Craton, approx. 100km NW of Tarcoola in South Australia (Figure 1).
Fieldwork by Tasman in 2006 discovered an area of poorly outcropping weathered ultramafic rocks, which returned assays up to 1,500ppm Ni in surface samples and 1,400ppm Ni in RAB drilling, and are considered prospective for nickel sulphide mineralisation.
Study of selected bottom of hole drill samples from the RAB drilling supports the existence of a large differentiated mafic –ultramafic intrusive (a favourable host rock for large nickel-platinum deposits around the world). The postulated intrusion is also associated with an airborne magnetic anomaly, which extends through Tasman’s EL 3341 for at least 8km.
Interpretation of the results from a ground EM survey carried out over the Sturt nickel prospect delineated three anomalies (Figure 2) which could be due to disseminated sulphides.
Drilling to test the anomalies for nickel sulphides and associated platinum metals is planned as soon as a suitable drilling rig becomes available.
