APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Peter Lynas has been appointed a non-Executive Director of SSE plc and will join the Board of the company on 1 July 2014.

Peter is Group Finance Director of BAE Systems plc, the UK-listed defence, aerospace and security company.

As announced on 11 March 2014, non-Executive Directors Susan Rice and Thomas Thune Andersen will step down from the Board at the end of SSE's Annual General Meeting on 17 July 2014.

After that, the Board of SSE will comprise the Chairman, five non-Executive Directors and two Executive Directors.

Lord Smith of Kelvin, Chairman of SSE plc, said:

"I am delighted that Peter will be joining the Board later this year.  He will bring the experience and insight he has gained as Finance Director in another UK-listed company and contribute very positively to the work of the Board and its Committees."
