bmp media investors AG (ISIN DE0003304200) has acquired a 20% stake in Ubertweek GmbH Berlin, as part of a capital increase . In addition to bmp media investors, Euro Serve Media GmbH, Nuremberg, and Catagonia Capital GmbH, Berlin, are financing the transaction.
Ubertweek, which was founded in 2011 and currently has six employees, operates Tweek TV as a social TV guide. Tweek TV derives information about user interests from social networks and transforms it into a personalised TV guide, thereby helping users with orientation and recommendations for ever more enormous volumes of video content. Tweek TV is currently in the closed beta phase, but will be rolled out to the public in early 2012. Tweek TV's social TV guide is based on relevant personal recommendations. Up to 45% of consumers surveyed said that they follow recommendations from social network contacts when deciding what programs to watch.
Founders Sven Koerbitz, Klaus Hartl and Marcel Düe have many years of pertinent experience, including from their activities with the successful Berlin startups Plazes and gate5.
Marcel Düe, managing director of Ubertweek GmbH, explained: 'Classic TV programmes plus user-generated content creates a large volume of interesting, high-quality content. The problem is that all of this content is increasingly spread across iTunes, apps, media kiosks and video portals. Content providers need partners who can help find new ways of attracting users. Meanwhile, users need orientation. They come home at night, turn on the TV and channel-hop out of boredom, without finding what they want. Tweek TV will revolutionise the way users find TV content.'
