PASSING OF SANDFIRE AMERICA CEO JOHN SHANAHAN

It is with the great sadness and deepest regret that Sandfire Resources NL (ASX: SFR; Sandfire ) advises of the sudden passing of John Shanahan, President and CEO of its North American affiliate company, Sandfire Resources America Inc.

On behalf of our Board, management team, staff and the wide network of stakeholders associated with the Black Butte Copper Project in Montana, Sandfire would like to extend our deepest condolences to Mr Shanahan’s wife and family, as well as his many close friends and colleagues both in North America and around the world.

Mr Shanahan was a well-liked and widely respected leader in the mining industry both in North America and Australia who made a substantial contribution over the past two years to bringing a modern, state-of-the-art underground mining development at Black Butte much closer to fruition.

Sandfire Managing Director and CEO, Mr Karl Simich, said: “John has left an indelible imprint on Sandfire America and on the communities of White Sulphur Springs, Helena and beyond. His warm and open leadership style allowed him to engage widely with stakeholders, communities, governments and regulatory authorities, and lead a growing team which is focused on developing a world-class project that will bring many benefits to the State of Montana.

“His loss will be keenly felt, not just by those of us within the Sandfire family in Australia and North America, but also by the many friends and former colleagues who knew him or worked alongside him during a distinguished career spanning many decades in mining, mine finance and commodity trading globally. On behalf of Sandfire, I would like to express our sincerest condolences to John’s wife, family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.”

Sandfire America Resources Chairman, Mr Matt Fitzgerald, said: “John was both well-respected and well-liked within Sandfire and the wider mining industry. His sudden passing is a great shock and a tragic loss, and our thoughts are with his family at this distressing time. On behalf of the Board and management of Sandfire America, I would like to express our enormous gratitude for his outstanding contribution and leadership.”

Mr Rob Scargill, who recently joined Sandfire America as Vice President – Project Development and as a Director of Sandfire America, has been appointed as interim Chief Executive Officer of Sandfire America Inc.
