SANDFIRE APPOINTS PAUL HALLAM AS NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

EXPERIENCED MINI N G EXECUTIVE AND DIRECTOR JOINS SANDFI R E BOARD

Sandfire Resources NL (ASX : SFR ; “Sandfire”) is pleased to announce the ap p ointment of experienced and highly regarded Australian mining executive, Mr Paul Hallam, as an in d ependent non-executive Director.

The appointment, which is effectiv e immediately, will further strengthen and diversify Sandfire’s Board, bringing significant experience in t h e areas of technical and operational mana g ement at senior levels in the global mining industry as well a s additional independence to the Board’s deliberations.

Mr Hallam, a qualified Mining Engi n eer, is an accomplished senior resource in d ustry executive with over 35 years experience in blue chip A ustralian and international companies, including 15 years at senior executive management level.

His former roles include Director Operations with the leading Australian iro n ore producer Fortescue Metals Group (2008-2011), where h e was responsible for all Mine, Rail and Port operations and support functions, technical services, asset management, HR and infrastructure service s .

Prior to this, he was Executive Gen e ral Manager – Development & Projects wit h Newcrest Mining Limited (2005-2007), where he was responsible for $1.5 billion of brownfields and gre e nfields projects; Director, Victorian Operations for Alcoa Aus t ralia; and Executive General Manager – B a se & Precious Metals for North Limited until its acquisition by Rio Tinto in 2000.

Mr Hallam holds a BE (Hons) from Melbourne University, a Certificate of Mineral Economics from Curtin University and a Company Director s Diploma from the Australian Institute of C o mpany Directors. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australi a n Institute of Mining & Metallurgy. He is also currently a non-executive Director of Altona Mining L t d, Gindalbie Metals Ltd, Enterprise Metals Ltd and Powertrans Pty Ltd.

Sandfire’s Chairman, Mr Derek L a Ferla, said he was delighted that Mr H allam had accepted the invitation to join the Company’s Bo a rd.

“Paul’s appointment further strengthens and diversifies our Board while also e nsuring that we maintain an appropriate number of indepe n dent non-executive Directors. He has an o utstanding track record, extensive Board experience and s t rong business, project, operational and general management skills. These will be of enormous value to Sandfire at Board level as we complete the ramp-up of production at our flagship DeGrussa Copper-Gol d Project and move into our next chapter of g rowth.
