NEW DIRECTOR APPOINTED TO SANDFIRE BOARD

The directors of Sandfire Resources NL (ASX: SFR ) ( Sandfire ) announce that following a request from Posco Australia Pty Ltd, they resolved to appoint a new director to the Board of Sandfire effective from 24 July 2008. The new director is:

Mr Jonghun Jong

In 1989, Mr Jong completed a Bachelor of Business Administration in Korea. He began his career with POSCO, a world top-3 steel maker, working in a procurement role with a variety of raw materials including coal, iron ore, ferroalloy and bulk transportation. During the 19 serving years Mr Jong worked mostly in the Raw Materials Purchasing Dept of POSCO head office located in Seoul, and thanks to the long period and vantage-point he was in better position to have a technical grasp of the upper-stream iron making process. Mr Jong’s latest assignment in POSCO was the leader of the coal purchase team through which POSCO imports 23 million tonnes of metallurgical coal per annum. In April 2007 Mr Jong moved to Posco Australia, a subsidiary of POSCO, based in Sydney. Since then he has been a director of Posco Australia Pty Ltd responsible as project manager for development of new business investment opportunities in the resource area and managing existing business ownership and partnerships.

Sandfire’s Chairman, Miles Kennedy said, “As a representative of Posco Australia, which is a 19.98% shareholder of Sandfire, Mr Jong is welcomed to the Board of Sandfire and as an additional director expands the expertise and commercial reach of the Sandfire Board at an important time in our operational development.”
