Company Announcements Office Australian Stock Exchange Limited 4[th] Floor, 20 Bridge Street SYDNEY NSW 2000

MEDIA RELEASE

APPOINTMENT OF MILES KENNEDY AS NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND RESIGNATION OF MANAGING DIRECTOR

Sandfire Resources NL (ASX: SFR) is pleased to announce the appointment of experienced Australian mining executive, Mr Miles Kennedy , as a non-executive director, further strengthening its Board as it moves ahead with active exploration programs focusing on two key gold projects in Western Australia.

The Company also advises that Mr Greg Steemson has today tendered his resignation as Managing Director, effective immediately. The Board would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Steemson for his contribution to the Company during his tenure as Managing Director.

Mr Kennedy, whose appointment is effective from today, is well known in the resource industry as the co-founder and Executive Chairman of Australian diamond producer Kimberley Diamond Company and its 40%-owned exploration subsidiary, Blina Diamonds NL.

He has more than 23 years experience at senior levels within Australian-listed resource companies and, before establishing Kimberley Diamond Company, was the founding Chairman of Macraes Mining Company Ltd (now Oceana Gold), taking it from a grass roots exploration company to production. It remains New Zealand’s biggest gold company.

Sandfire’s Chairman, Mr Brian Coppin, welcomed Mr Kennedy’s appointment, saying he brought an impressive depth of expertise in the resource sector and a proven track record in the management and development of exploration companies through to production status.

“We are delighted to have someone of Mr Kennedy’s calibre joining the Board,” Mr Coppin said. “Through his association with the Hutton family, he has been involved with Sandfire as an investor from its inception in 2004, and I am sure he will be a valuable contributor as we move to the next stage of evaluation of the exciting Doolgunna gold discovery in Western Australia and our other quality exploration projects.”

“The Company retains the same strong and highly experienced geological team originally assembled by our founding director, the late Graeme Hutton,” Mr Coppin continued. “Following the excellent progress made over the past two years, we are now moving into a particularly exciting phase of activity, with a major resource drilling program scheduled to commence shortly at Doolgunna.”

Sandfire is planning to drill approximately 20,000 metres over the next few months at the Doolgunna Project, located in the Northeastern Goldfields, in the expectation of establishing an initial gold resource over at least two, if not more, prospects. This greenfields discovery represents one of the more significant gold finds in Australia in recent years.

“Our objective is to establish initial resources at the Old Highway and East Shed Well prospects, with the objective of commercialising this field in the medium term,” Mr Coppin said. “Simultaneously, work will commence at the Urandy Gold Project, where we have recently reported very promising gold results.”

A drilling program is also planned for late August at the Apollo lead-zinc prospect at Borroloola, located near the world-class McArthur River lead-zinc mine in the Northern Territory. If this program intersects mineralisation, it is expected to have a significantly beneficial outcome for the Company.
