May 2002: With a turnover increase of 10.3 per cent, RATIONAL AG has successfully closed the first quarter of 2002. The world market leader iIn large kitchen appliances designed for the thermal preparation of food increased its turnovers to 40.2 million Euros and thus asserted itself once more against the market trend. The outcome, which was 6.0 million Euros before taxes and interest, has disproportionately increased by 16.6 percent Particularly encouraging were the developments of business in the markets that are strategically important for the future, the USA and Japan. With an increase of 46 per cent, the American subsidiary was able to considerably improve its competitiveness in a stagnating market environment. Despite the lasting recession in Japan and the weakening of the Yen, the turnover there in the first quarter achieved an increase of 25 per cent. The Chairman of the Board, Dr. Günter Blaschke, credited the first quarter success to a considerable increase in efficiency in sales and marketing, as well as in production: “The most modern production methods with a minimal capital contribution, as well as a higher quality of product are the basis for a continuous improvement of our market position.
