MediClin AG: Business Development in FY 2011

MediClin AG / Key word(s): Final Results

22.03.2012 / 11:02

Business Development of MediClin in FY 2011

Frankfurt am Main, March 22, 2012 – The Members of the Management Board of MEDICLIN Aktiengesellschaft (MediClin) said at this year’s balance sheet press conference that they are satisfied with the results of FY 2011 especially against the background of new legal regulations, which don’ t or only limited allow to rise costs. ‘The requirements for medical services are increasing all the time, the willingness to honour more quality in the treatments not. Therefore the solution can only be an integrated cross-sector medical care, which allows an efficient treatment on a high quality level’, said Frank Abele, Chairman of the management Board..

Group sales increase by 1.3% to EUR 493.6 mill.

Group sales was EUR 493.6 mill., about EUR 6,4 mill. or 1.3 % above the previous year’s value. In the post-acute segment sales increased from EUR 275.2 mill. to EUR 279.3 mill. despite the slight decrease in occupancy. In the acute segment, sales increased by EUR 0.6 mill., from EUR 200.3 mill. to EUR 200.9 mill. Of the remaining sales increase totalling EUR 1.7 mill., EUR 0.8 mill. was derived from the nursing care business area. The service business area, which is also assigned to the other activities segment, recorded an increase in sales, too.

Group operating result (earnings before interest and taxes) was EUR 10.9 mill., which was EUR 6.0 mill. lower than the previous year. In the post-acute segment, the segment result decreased von EUR 6.2 mill. to EUR 2,8 mill. and the acute segment result decreased from EUR 18.2 mill. to EUR 15.2 mill. Despite the rise in sales, the cost of raw materials and consumables used was EUR 110.4 mill., nearly on the same level as the previous year. Personnel costs increased by EUR 11.6 mill. up to EUR 278.6 mill. compared to the previous year.

A total of EUR 29.9 mill. was invested in 2011, or EUR 6.6 mill. more than in the previous year. A further EUR 15.9 mill. was spent on maintenance. On the 2011 balance sheet date, with liquid funds of EUR 41.3 mill., MediClin had enough cash and cash equivalents to finance further growth.

Capacity expansion in the segments to secure future internal growth

In the post-acute segment the bed capacity was significantly increased in neurology and psychosomatics as a result of higher demand. The expansion of the service range in these specialist medical fields reflects corporate strategy to concentrate on specific areas that correspond to

.

growing demand. The bed capacity in the acute segment was also expanded over the course of the financial year. In the coming years, a rising occupancy rates for these additional capacities is expected.

Outlook

In 2012, MediClin will continue on the path that it has embarked upon – providing cross sector, integrated, patient-focused care that is close to patients’ homes. Opportunities sees MediClin in the shareholding of the Asklepios Group. The Management Board anticipates additional growth potential as overlaps in the service range only exist at a few locations.

The refinancing of existing loan obligations totalling EUR 61.4 mill. will have a positive effect in the 2012 financial year. Accordingly, updated interest rates lead to expectations of a better financial result from 2012 onwards.

Overall, should the framework conditions in the industry and the referral practices of coverage providers not change drastically in 2012, the Management Board expects an increase in sales and a solid earnings performance for the current financial year.
