Litgrid to invest into the electricity transmission network

Vilnius, Lithuania, 2011-12-30 13:51 CET (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Litgrid, the
operator of the electricity transmission system, signed a contract with A.
Žilinskio ir Ko UAB that won a public procurement tender for the construction
of high-voltage electricity transmission line Klaipėda - Telšiai. The
Lithuanian Business Support Agency (LBSA) will allocate LTL 22.7 million for
the implementation of the project. The total value of the project amounts to
LTL 68.1 million.

“This electricity transmission line, which will be 89 kilometres long, is the
first 330 kV high-voltage electricity transmission line to be constructed in
Lithuania during the past 17 years. We are pleased to sign this important
contract before the end of the year so that the contractor will be able to
start working immediately”, Virgilijus Poderys, CEO of Litgrid, says.

The electricity transmission line Klaipėda - Telšiai is an integral part of the
international power link NordBalt, which will ensure the integration of the
electricity systems and electricity markets of Lithuania and the Northern
European countries. It is expected that the construction of Klaipėda - Telšiai
electricity transmission line will be complete in 2014. The operation of the
700 MW power link NordBalt will start at the end of 2015.

900 MW electricity transmission line Klaipėda - Telšiai will also increase
security of electricity supply in the Western Lithuania, especially for the
population of Klaipėda, Telšiai and Plungė districts.
