SEALINK INVESTS IN FOURTH NEW FERRY FOR SYDNEY HARBOUR

SeaLink Travel Group (SLK) has commissioned the construction of a fourth new ferry for its subsidiary Captain Cook Cruises to meet increased demand for services on Sydney Harbour.

The decision to build another purpose built rocket ferry follows recently signed contracts with Harbour City Ferries, the Biennale Festival and the temporary Convention Centre and other charter opportunities on the harbour.

Managing Director, Mr Jeff Ellison, said extra capacity was needed for the fleet to expand on recent contracts and to seek new opportunities.

“The decision to invest in a fourth ferry reflects SeaLink’s aim to be a major charter operator on Sydney Harbour,” Mr Ellison said.

“These new generation ferries offer a fast, comfortable service for up to 200 passengers and deliver this with a low wash, fuel efficiency, very manoeuvrable and the flexibility to operate anywhere from as far up the river as Parramatta and all the way out to Manly.”

The purpose built vessel is being constructed in Tasmania at a cost of $2.7 million and represents the fourth such vessel to be delivered to Captain Cook Cruises within 12 months.

The new ferry will follow the Elizabeth Cook ferry delivered in November 2013 and two other ferries currently under construction and on schedule to be delivered in May and June 2014.

It will join the Captain Cook Cruises fleet in Sydney in November this year.
