INTERSHOP Communications AG (ISH), the worlds leading provider of standard software for e- commerce applications, today announced results for the first quarter ended March 31, 1999. First-quarter 1999 revenues were up 102 % or DM 6.9 million to DM 13.6 million from the first quarter 1998. With these figures INTERSHOP confirms the preliminary figures reported in late April. INTERSHOP ended the quarter with a net loss of DM 6.8 million as compared with a net loss of DM 8.7 for the same period last year, which represented an improvement of DM 1.9 million or 22 % in net income for the quarter. “We are very satisfied with our first-quarter performance,” reported INTERSHOP CFO Wilfried Beeck. “Revenues have started to substantially outpace expenses, and this trend continued into this quarter. This was the first period to show an improvement in earnings over the year-earlier period.” Repeat business from existing customers and orders from any new customers contributed to the very encouraging first- quarter performance. During this quarter, major customers in the area of hosting applications included leading telecommunications companies such as Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom, and Bell South, and ISPs, such as Concentric, MindSpring and Strato. In addition to many medium-sized companies, INTERSHOP enterprise customers also included major corporations such as Hewlett-Packard, Canon, NatWest, Robert Bosch, SGI, Siemens and Lufthansa. As of the end of March, the number of e-commerce sites using INTERSHOP technology had topped the 15,000 mark, and that figure has since climbed to over 20,000. Newcomers to the ranks of INTERSHOP merchants that helped reinforce INTERSHOP’s position as the world’s leading provider of standard sell-side e-commerce software included companies such as Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Lufthansa, Bacardi, Columbia Tristar Homevideo, Deutsche Bank and Eurocard. INTERSHOP CEO Stephan Schambach reported: “According to Dataquest, INTERSHOP was already the fastest-growing vendor of e-commerce software in 1998. In the first quarter of 1999, we continued to outgrow our most important competitors. This was especially the case in the very important area of license revenues.” Financial data (unaudited) for the first quarter of 1999 (1998 figures in parentheses): Revenues: DM 13.6 million (DM 6.8 million) Increase in revenues: 102 % Gross profit: DM 9.5 million (DM 4.6 million) Operating loss : – DM 8.0 million (- DM 9.3 million) Net loss: – DM 6.8 million (- DM 8.7 million) The complete report for the first quarter ended March 31, 1999, is available as pdf file at http://www.intershop.de.
