ILUKA BOARD APPOINTMENT

The Chairman of Iluka Resources Limited (Iluka), Greg Martin, today announced the appointment of Marcelo Bastos as an independent non-executive director of Iluka, effective immediately.

Mr Bastos has been the Chief Operating Officer of MMG Limited since June 2011. MMG Limited is a global resources company which explores, develops and mines base metal deposits around the world. The company is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange .

Mr Bastos has responsibility for all MMG operations in three continents. His experience is detailed over the page and includes 28 years of international mining experience in the iron ore, gold, copper, nickel, and coal sectors. He has served as the Chief Executive Officer of BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), as President of Nickel West of BHP Billiton Limited, President and Chief Operating Officer of Cerro Matoso and Nickel Americas of BHP Billiton and also had a 19 year career with Vale (CVRD) in senior management and operational positions.

Mr Martin said that Mr Bastos’ appointment was part of the Board’s commitment to continuing renewal and succession.

Professional Experience – Marcelo Bastos

Mr Bastos is currently the Chief Operating Officer of MMG Limited since June 2011, with responsibility for all operations in three continents.

Mr Bastos has extensive experience in the development and operations of major projects (iron ore, gold, copper and nickel) and company management experience in the metals and mining industry in Americas, Australia, Asia and Africa.

This includes 28 years of international mining experience in the iron ore, gold, copper, nickel, and coal sectors, in the following positions:

  • Chief Executive Officer of BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) from 2008 to 2011

  • President of Nickel West of BHP Billiton Limited since January 2007 until 2008

  • President and Chief Operating Officer of Cerro Matoso and Nickel Americas of BHP Billiton, based in Colombia from 2004 to 2006

  • 19 years with Vale (CVRD) prior to joining BHP in 2004, working within the iron ore, gold and copper sectors from 1985 to 2004. Mr Bastos’ last two roles within Vale were Director, Non Ferrous Operations from 2002 to 2004 and General Manager of Carajas mines complex in Brazil at Vale from 1999 to 2002.

He was a non-executive director of Golding Contractors Pty Ltd. from 2012 to 2013 and has served as a Director of a number of subsidiaries of MMG. Mr Bastos was a Member of the Western Australia Chamber of Mines and Energy and was Vice President of the Queensland Resources Council.

Mr Bastos holds a mechanical engineer degree from Universidad Federal de Minas Geris - Brazil (UFMG), and a Master of Business Administration in Management from Fundacao Dom Cabral/INSEAD - Brazil (FDC-MG).
