Fugro acquires Roadware Group in Canada

Fugro has completed the acquisition of Roadware Group Inc, a leading provider of technology and services for the assessment and mapping of highway and other pavement structures, for an amount of approximately EUR 14 million. Roadware's headquarter and assembly centre is in Paris, Ontario, Canada. Turnover for the financial year 2007 was more than EUR 9 million and the company employs 130 staff.

Founded in 1969, Roadware Group Inc. is widely known and respected for its innovative and customer driven Automatic Road Analyzer (ARAN) technology. First developed in the mid 1980s, the modular ARAN is a multifunctional vehicle used for road surface data collection, geometrics profiling and video logging for asset inventory mapping.

Roadware designs, assembles and supplies custom built vehicles and has delivered over eighty such vehicles to international customers, primarily Government Road Authorities. Roadware operates its own fleet of fourteen scanning vehicles and currently has over 140,000 miles of scanning services under contract. Operating its own fleet keeps Roadware at the forefront of technological development and best able to respond to evolving industry requirements. The company will be renamed Fugro-Roadware and will operate within the Onshore Geotechnical business line with Larry Gatien, the current director, remaining responsible for the management of the Company.

With this acquisition, in combination with the recently announced acquisition of the consultancy Pavement Management Services, and Fugro's existing activities regarding the investigation of the physical characteristics of the soil, Fugro will enhance its position in a growing world wide market for pavement management.

The increase in new road construction and the need for long term conservation of existing highway assets continues to drive demand for high quality data acquisition and consultancy that are focused on optimization of life cycle cost of the asset.
