Cochin Shipyard Limited, incorporated in 1972, is a fully owned Government of India (GOI) company and has been rated excellent by GOI six times in a row for achieving the targets set for the yard under the MOU system. The company is a leading shipbuilding & repair yard in India, which has an infrastructure that combines economy, scale, and flexibility, and has ISO 9001 accreditation. Cochin Shipyard Ltd commenced ship repair operations in the year 1978 and has undertaken repairs of all types of ships including up-gradation of ships of oil exploration industry as well as periodical layup repairs and life extension of ships of Navy, UTL, Coast Guard, Fisheries and Port Trust besides merchant ships of SCI & ONGC. It caters to clients engaged in the defense sector in India and commercial sector worldwide. Cochin Shipyard Ltd is the largest public sector shipyard in India in terms of dock capacity, as of March 31, 2015, according to the CRISIL Report. The company has also been conferred the 'Miniratna' status in 2008, by the Department of Public Enterprises, GOI. Cochin Shipyard has secured shipbuilding orders from internationally renowned companies from Europe & Middle East and is building the country’s first indigenous Air Defense Ship. In addition to shipbuilding and ship repair, Cochin Shipyard Ltd also offers marine engineering training.
