DOWNER EDI SECURES $35 MILLION ENGINEERING CONTRACT FOR BHP BILLITON
Downer EDI today announced a new $35 million engineering contract with BHP Billiton for engineering services associated with the expansion of its Newman Whaleback Mining Operations, north-east of Perth.
Downer EDI CEO, Geoff Knox, said the electrical installation work forms part of BHP Billiton’s Rapid Growth Project Stage 4, also known as the Newman Hub.
“It’s always pleasing to see relationships with strong clients mature and grow and to be working on our fourth stage of such an important project for BHP Billiton shows the confidence that industry leaders have in our ability to deliver in high performance environments,” Mr Knox said.
“This new contract takes the value of our work on the Newman Rapid Growth Project to approximately $200 million.
“The contract was won on a competitive tender basis with our proven performance in regard to safety and environmental management key factors in securing the win,” he said.
The project, which includes the provision of a crushing and screening plant, stockyard facility, ore train loadout facility and an ore-car dumper, is expected to be completed in July 09.
