ARCADIS TRANSFERS THE ACTIVITIES OF WITPAARD
February 15, 2011 – ARCADIS (NYSE EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international consultancy, design, engineering and management services company, announced today that the activities of urban design company WITPAARD will be transferred to the management of the firm. WITPAARD, active in urban design and spatial planning, became a part of ARCADIS in 2004 to strengthen its market position in the northern and eastern parts of the Netherlands. The decision to unwind the acquisition is driven by the limited amount of synergy between the two companies. Financial details were not disclosed.
WITPAARD regains its independence by way of a management buyout by the directors of the firm. With 30 employees WITPAARD can compete well in her market, where smaller companies are more abundant and successful.
"WITPAARD is a stronger competitor in the local market, while ARCADIS is more focused on the larger, more complex projects," said Rob Mooren, director of ARCADIS Netherlands. "In that case it is better to go on separate ways."
