Stadium Australia becomes ANZ Stadium: new 7 year, $31 million naming rights sponsorship

ANZ today announced a new seven-year naming rights sponsorship with Stadium Australia Group which will see the Stadium renamed “ANZ Stadium” from January 2008.

The $4.5 million annual sponsorship totaling $31.5 million over seven years will be Australia’s biggest stadium naming rights agreement.

ANZ Chief Executive Officer, Mike Smith, officially announced the Stadium’s new name and logo today at Homebush with Stadium Australia Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ken Edwards, Australian Socceroo, John Aloisi, and former Wallabies Captain, John Eales.

“This stadium is one of the world’s great sporting and entertainment arenas and because of the 2000 Olympics, holds a unique place in the hearts of all Australians. We are proud that it will carry the ANZ name,” Mr Smith said.

“The sponsorship is a sign of our continuing commitment both to New South Wales and to all levels of sport in Australia and New Zealand.

“2008 will be one of the Stadium’s greatest years since the Olympics with the Bledisloe Cup, the Wallabies playing France in the Bicentenary Cup, the NRL Grand Final, two state of origin games, a major Socceroos international and four Swans AFL games, “ Mr Smith said.

Stadium Australia’s Ken Edwards said that both ANZ and the Stadium share national and international outlooks, while remaining in touch with the community.

“The stature and scope of the new partnership will ensure ANZ Stadium is at the heart of Sydney’s sporting and entertainment life for years to come,” Mr Edwards said.

“All of Australia’s major sporting codes play at ANZ Stadium and it hosts world-class concerts,” he said.

ANZ has had a long-term relationship with the Stadium through its financing of the facility and the Diversified Infrastructure Trust (an investment trust owned by ANZ and managed by ANZ Infrastructure Services Limited) is the present owner of the Stadium following its acquisition in April 2007.
