EBITDA rose from -4.3 million euros (2001) to +6.5 million euros in 2002. In spite of challenging market conditions, Drillisch AG has therefore exceeded its own EBITDA target by more than 14%. During its presentation of the six-monthly figures back on 12 August 2002, the company had indicated a guidance figure of 5.7 million euros for its EBITDA for the entire year 2002. The figure for EBIT also demonstrates enormous earnings power. EBIT rose from -18.9 million euros (2001) to +2.8 million euros in 2002. As a result of declining wholesales of mobile communication appliances, Group sales fell by 16.5 percent to 144.5 million euros. In terms of subscriber numbers, Drillisch AG was able to call a halt to the modest development witnessed during the first three quarters of 2002. Following 606,000 subscribers (end of March 2002) and 601,000 subscribers (end of June 2002) the number of subscribers increased to 605,000 by the end of September and to 620,000 subscribers by the end of December 2002, which equates to the acquisition of 15,000 new customers in the fourth quarter 2002 alone. The primary reason for this satisfactory development in the customer base is to be found in the improved customer loyalty measures and in the continued success in marketing debit products within the Group.
